History

It is believed that Kefir was first developed in the northern area of Caucasus Mountains of Eastern Europe. Shepherds carried milk in leather sacks and that cause the milk to ferment at times. The outcome was a tart creamy drink that has become Kefir. While Kefir is similar to yogurt, it provides probiotics not always found in yogurt. It also provides an added convenience as it is drinkable.
